Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year. See You All On Januray 6th 2025
DISCOVER NEW EXPERIENCES
We have many groups and societies for you to get involved in which may increase your self-confidence and improve your job and university applications. Most importantly, it’s about you having fun and enjoying your Newman experience!
These opportunities are based on your interests and those of your fellow students. They are often organised by students themselves.
Debating Society
Join the student-led Debating Society and improve your ability to think for yourself, argue intelligently and communicate eloquently. You will take part in National Competitions with the opportunity to win prizes and gain newspaper coverage. We have always seen great success from our Debating Team. Just recently, we got through to the South East Regional Finals. You could also develop your skills further with the Oxford Union Debating Workshop.
Politics Society
We have a student-led Politics Group who has arranged the visit of MPs, such as Mrs Caroline Lucas, the only Green MP in the country and a ‘Question Time’ General Election debate with all the candidates for the seat of Hove.
Sports Clubs
Every Wednesday afternoon sports and leisure opportunities are available to you. These include being part of football, netball, rugby and hockey teams and other activities. We have seen great success in our sports teams and compete in regional and national championships. We can offer flexible study around your training needs. You could join our Boys Rugby Academy or Girls Football Academy.
Music and Drama Clubs
The music and drama departments give opportunities for students to develop and showcase their talents. Highlights of the year include an annual school and sixth form production and a ‘Jazz and Pop night'
Christian Union
We have a Christian Union where students can explore what they believe in. You could help teach, encourage and inspire younger students by being a “Mission Leader” guiding primary school children through fun activities, prayer and song or you could become a “mass mentor”. You could raise money for charity or experience inner peace on retreats such as Taize in France.
Academic Extension Programme
We offer expert support if applying for Oxford, Cambridge or Medicine and Veterinary Science through our Academic Extension Programme. We can support you through the process with ongoing advice and resources so that you can make the right choice and be fully prepared.
